TERMITE REPELLANT CAVITY WALL INSULATION

InsulGuard Cavity Shield is manufactured as a chemical barrier for termites as well as a thermal barrier.

In Australia, termite damage can affect nearly 190,000 homes, resulting in up to $1.3 billion in damages. The resulted damage can cost the average home between $25,000 to $120,000 in repairs alone.

Termite Repellant Cavity Wall Insulation

InsulGuard Cavity Shield is uniquely designed to act as a termite repellant for Australian homes. This is achieved in the manufacturing of the product to include a termite treatment known as Tim-bor. The termite repellant cavity shield protects the double brick cavity, ensuring termites cannot use this “highway” to reach your timber roof frame.

What is Tim-Bor?

Tim-bor is an effective termite repellent that is used throughout the world. It has been proven to be effective against termites, as well as other insects. The core element of Tim-Bor is knowns as Disodium Octaborate Tetrahydrate (DOT), which is safe for humans and animals. However, the low acute toxicity is very effective against termites and insects.

How Cavity Shield Works as a Termite Repellant

The termite repellent in Cavity Shield, Tim-bor, can kill termites on direct contact and via their behaviour. The key ingredient, Deisodium Octaborate Tetrahydrate (DOT) binds itself  to the termite when the brush past the insulation beads. As the double brick cavity is a highway for termites, this creates a physical chemical barrier in your double brick wall.

The DOT is absorbed by the termites, which they are unable to metabolise (unlike humans and animals). They also can share the toxin with the colony through physical contact, feeding and termites. The termites eventually die from starvation.
