Whirlybirds can be fitted on both tin and tiled roofs. With the colorbond roof, a round hole is cut in the sheet and the whirlybird is fixed to tin. This has to be fixed under the ridge cap flashing. On a tiled roof, the whirlybird can be installed anywhere. As hot air rises, it is normally best practice to put close to the apex of the roof. The whirlybird essentially replaces a tile on the roof, being clipped under the tile and secured to a roof rafter.
